Advanced Coaching Workshops

To support continuing professional development, each year Coaching Development runs a series of advanced coaching workshops.  These workshops are open to all coaches and form a key element of the Diploma in Coaching and Advanced Certificate in Coaching programmes.

Extended Skills Workshop series
5 workshop / skills development days
The series of 5 workshop / skills development days is open to all trained coaches and is available either as a complete programme, or as individual days. The programme has evolved from requests we have received from Coaching Development alumni, coupled with Coaching Development’s commitment to the continuing professional development of outstanding professional coaches.

Workshop Day 1: Coaching and Physiology - working with the body with Philip Brew (MCC) & TA: Tips and Techniques with Colin Brett (PCC)

Workshop Day 2: Coaching in the Corporate World
Friday 23 July, 2010 with Philip Brew (MCC)
In the corporate world the purpose of coaching is to bring about significant, sustainable, behavioural change, so that both the individual and the organisation benefit. So what is the organisation’s responsibility in providing the conditions which support this purpose? How might an organisation set up a coaching engagement so that it works, and how might it (inadvertently) set up coaching to fail? What is the coach’s role and responsibility as a partner to the organisation in this process?

Workshop Day 3: Creativity and Coaching
Friday 8 October, 2010 with Ailbhe Harrington (ACC)
Creativity is about something being born and coming into being, something that did not exist before. It is a gift that helps us experience ourselves as never before, to gain new insights and to move forward. This workshop provides a number of different creative approaches, including image and metaphor, that can be used easily and effectively in coaching and provide powerful resources in the creative process of change.

Workshop Day 4: Working with Teams using Appreciative Enquiry
Friday 26 November, 2010 with Colin Brett (PCC)
One approach to coaching teams is using Appreciative Inquiry. AI is a positive, optimistic approach to change based on the precept that what we focus on will develop. This workshop introduces the philosophy and processes of AI and links them to coaching a team. A good read is ‘Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change’ by Orem, Blinkert & Clancy.

Workshop Day 5: Crossing Cultures in Coaching
Friday 21 January, 2011 with Deryn Holland (ACC)
In the spring of 2010 Coaching Development’s alumni will be invited to take part in an action based research study about coaching across cultures and languages. Drawing on our collective experience from a very wide range of different cultures, languages and experiences, the CD community will be asked to send in stories and respond to a questionnaire. Then in January 2011 we will come together for an interactive workshop based on the findings emerging from the data we collect. How can coaching make valuable use of cultural difference to the benefit of our clients?
