Advanced Workshop Thirteen:
Mindfulness for Coaches, with Michael Chaskalson
Mindfulness is a way of paying attention from moment to moment to whatever arises. It leads to an enhanced awareness of yourself, others and the environment. Derived from the Buddhist meditative traditions and now finding its way increasingly into secular contexts, the mindfulness approach to personal effectiveness has been subject to considerable scientific research – some of which will be discussed in the workshop.

Michael Chaskalson, who will present and facilitate the day for Coaching Development, is a leading teacher of mindfulness-based approaches to work. He trains senior executives, executive coaches and others in this radical approach to leadership and personal effectiveness. This workshop is aimed at coaches, consultants, trainers and other professionals who support clients in functioning effectively in high performance environments.

Over the course of the day you will learn methods to enhance the quality of present moment attention and new ways of being with your clients and yourself. By developing your capacity to listen for and attend to the quieter intuitions of your heart and the vital sensory cues of your body, you will discover and explore new ways of knowing – following your own moment to moment experience.

Advanced Workshop Eight:
Solution-Focused  Brief Coaching
Sometimes coaches are called on to achieve lasting coaching results within a limited period of time. And sometimes as coaches we are surprised by our clients’ ability in creating desired progress fast.

Since the 1980’s the Solution-Focused Model has provided major success in supporting such brief and lasting change. In recent years this trend has been reinforced by concepts like Positive Psychology, Appreciative Inquiry, Positive Deviants and recent brain research results. These all underline the seemingly counter-intuitive paradigm shift: that focusing on existing and desired solutions, and thus asking solution-focused questions, produces sustainable results even without necessarily analysing and addressing the underlying root causes of the problem. The Model provides coaches with the choice of using solution-building questions as a valid alternative to problem-solving methods.

This introductory workshop will enable you to experience and start using the simplicity of solution focused coaching right away. Throughout the day you'll be actively experimenting with a proven-to- work sequence of coaching questions which you apply to real live situations. The simple five step model is fun to learn and can easily be integrated into your future coaching.

This will be a highly interactive workshop in which we will:

  • discover how to combine being brief and highly effective in both first and follow-up coaching sessions
  • experiment with 3 essential elements of a solution-focused coaching conversation and two practical sets of coaching cards
  • deploy the magic of scaling questions as a powerful tool within a wide range of situations.

Provocative Presence
Provocative Presence is an extraordinary place – and one rarely found by most coaches. There are, however, clear principles that underpin its creation.

Join Margaret Krigbaum, MCC, for a masterful journey towards this special and magical place. By the end of the day, you will have a deep understanding of what Provocative Presence is, what you will have to give up and take on to get there, and how Provocative Presence will contribute to a truly powerful coaching process for your clients. Advanced Workshop Four: Coaching and Physiology –
Working with the Body
Coaching is typically about change in some form, and for some desired changes a verbal / cognitive approach is not the most effective medium.  We `know' the ways in which we want to be different, but somehow the system isn't ready to shift.  Working through the physiology can be a profoundly effective route to creating fundamental change in who and how we are.
