Coaching Development launches International
Coach Federation accredited coach training in South Africa
13/04/2006
UK-based Coaching Development Ltd
has announced today that it will launch its ICF-accredited coach training
programme in South Africa from September 2006.
The move is being led by Coaching
Development trainer Colin Brett, himself a South African citizen.
“We are delighted to be bringing
our coach training programme home to South Africa at such a critical point
in this country’s development. South Africa’s sense of identity continues
to emerge and grow, and coaching has a fundamental support role to play
here. Our course not only develops excellent coaches but contributes
to the growth of the profession by offering participants an internationally-recognised
(ICF) qualification and a clear pathway for ongoing professional development,”
said Colin.
The programme, which has been running
in Europe for three years, comprises 20 days’ face-to-face training spread
over five months. The content is strongly experiential, with demonstration
and practice of coaching during and between training blocks. The
focus of the training, Coaching Development says, is on developing coaches
rather than teaching coaching techniques.
There are no formal course prerequisites,
other than fluent English. Coaching Development says the programme is open
to everyone, especially those who have a keen interest in people and a
willingness to join in an experiential training. Where possible, scholarships
for a reduction in the tuition fees are available.
At the end of the 20 days’ training,
students receive a Certificate in Coaching Skills, and can then go on to
complete a Diploma in Coaching. The Diploma requires additional hours
of coaching supported by qualified observation and supervision and examination.
The Diploma programme has been accredited
by the International Coach Federation (ICF), the world’s largest independent
professional coaching body. This means Diploma graduates have satisfied
all the major requirements for becoming an ICF Associate Certified Coach
(ACC) and the training and examination requirements for becoming an ICF
Professional Certified Coach (PCC).
Coaching Development’s first South
African coach training programme starts in September 2006. Training
will take place in central Cape Town. For further information, please
