Book Club

Commences 2nd October 2023

Hello and welcome to the Book Club!

If you'd like to take a couple of hours out each month to talk about and reflect on some interesting publications related to the world of coaching, come and join our FREE online Book Club.

Whatever your route to coaching has been, you will get most value out of this club if you have had a notional 60 hours of coach-specific training and are interested in deepening your knowledge and thinking about coaching and your personal and professional development.

Overview:

Before the club meets, you read the suggested book and think about another book of your own choice which is related to coaching and which you'd like to discuss. Your ‘book’ might be a podcast, a YouTube video or similar. At the club meeting, you’ll have the chance to talk about both with the group.

Logistics:

The club meets monthly from October 2nd, 2023, to February 5th, 2024, from 6.30 till 8.30pm online via Zoom. Please be punctual and plan to stay for the whole 2 hours.

The evening is in two parts. The first hour is for you as a small group to share your responses to the suggested book. The second part is open for you to introduce whatever else you are reading, and to discuss this with your group. Of course, you may decide to devote the second half of the evening to the same book you talked about in the first half!

CD will host the book club, however, there is no formal input from our side. This is an opportunity for you to learn from and with your colleagues, to deepen your thinking and to share what interests you at the moment.

Planned reading:

Date      Book     Author     Publisher
Monday, 2nd October 2023 Positive Provocation R. Biswas-Diener Berrett-Kohler
Thursday, 2nd November 2023 Happier Tal Ben-Shahar McGraw Hill
Monday, 4th December 2023 Tiny habits B. J. Fogg Penguin
Monday, 8th January 2024 So far from home M. Wheatley Berrett-Kohler
Monday, 5th February 2024 Man’s Search for Meaning Viktor Frankl Rider

The ‘book’ of your choice:

This will be a book which is somehow related to coaching. It might be something from psychology, from personal / professional development, from spirituality, etc. etc. (eg. Kets de Vries, Brene Brown, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Richard Rohr, etc. etc.).

Process:

Brief introductions so we can dive in. Check expectations around the time for the agreed book and for your own input. Please manage your time and share the space, do invite other people to talk, etc. We’ll have a short break in the middle of the evening.

Next Steps:

Simply complete the enquiry form below to receive further details (and remember to check your junk mail!).

Small print:
  • You are very welcome to come along and discuss the books you have read. Please don't use the time to promote yourself, products or services, nor to make strong recommendations which go beyond simple information.
  • We know some of you have written books related to coaching. Please do send us the details and we'll include your book on our Book Club List (a link will appear on our web page).
  • Please have your name on your Zoom profile, or we might think you are someone else and not let you in!
