Training Overview:

This intense six day accredited training in Workplace Mediation is designed to help the participants gain the capability and confidence to understand, manage and lead mediation processes in the workplace.

This course is fully accredited by the OCN (Open College Network) at Level 3 (equivalent to an Advanced Diploma) offering three units with a total of 9 credits. The learning integrates theoretical, practical and self-reflective aspects. Participants will learn about the nature of conflict and mediation, the practical skills and mindsets needed to be a mediator, the process of mediation and methods to continue their professional development.

The format of the course includes pre-course questionnaire and reading, face-to-face delivery, group discussions, practical exercises, simulations of detailed mediation scenarios and personal study and reflection. The assessment process involves an assessed role play, reflective logs and some written work.

Aims and Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and understand the nature and causes of conflict in the workplace
  • Recognise the process of conflict escalation and its symptoms
  • Understand and apply core values and key mediation principles to the workplace context, including confidentiality, impartiality, voluntariness and self-determination
  • Develop and demonstrate key communication and mediation skills
  • Lead and manage a mediation process, including preparation, individual meetings, joint meeting, action planning and follow-up
  • Get to know oneself as a mediator and how to improve continuously (self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses), reflecting on how one’s own stereotypes and prejudices might affect the ability to mediate

About our Trainers:

Martha Clarke: Following her training with Coaching Development in 2006, Martha decided to focus on more interpersonal communications. She is now a qualified workplace, civil and commercial and community mediator, delivering accredited workplace mediation courses to public and corporate sector organisations.

She adopts a holistic approach to her work, drawing on person-centred counseling, transactional analysis, neuro-linguistic programming and mindfulness.

Martha is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and the Professional Mediators Association.

Martha has a first degree in Psychology and a postgraduate MSc Diploma in Organisational Psychology

Macarena Mata: has been working professionally in the field of conflict resolution for the past 11 years.

She works as an accredited mediator and trainer, engaging with executives, academics, teams and community groups on mediation, conflict resolution and self-awareness training, as well as young people in schools and youth organisations. She also works as an assessor in accredited mediation programmes and as a conflict coach helping people understand how to change their relationship to conflict and prepare for mediation processes.

Macarena has lectured on conflict theory and self-awareness and reflective practice at the PgCert and MSc courses at Birkbeck College, and is part of the team designing the PgCert on Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Regent’s University, UK, as well as module leader for Applied Theory. She is member of the College of Mediators, National Family Mediation, Civil Mediation Council, Mediators Beyond Borders and Association for Conflict Resolution.
