Overview

The Certified Agile Facilitator Training course will help you develop the attitudes and learn the skills of an effective Agile facilitator.  You will learn and practice techniques and behaviours from the world of professional facilitation and creative problem solving, all in the context of an Agile team and multi-team environment. Participants will leave the course feeling empowered with skills, models and styles of facilitating.

This course runs over two long days (9am - 6pm), and is rich in experience, Agile practice and personal insights.  As the real learning - the application of the course content to facilitating teams in the workplace - follows the training, we invite you to come back for a further half-day devoted to further practice and reflection on what you have learned.  The purpose of this is to expand and embed your learning.  There is no fee for this extra learning opportunity.  These practice opportunities are open to anyone who has completed their Agile Facilitator training.

Who the course is for

This course will ideally suit Agile coaches and aspiring coaches, Scrum masters, project managers, product owners, product managers, program managers, delivery managers, team leads, development managers, and team members who are interested in developing their Agile facilitation skills, and in including more of a facilitative style in their work.

Pre-requisites

This course does not teach the basics of Agile. It is therefore a pre-requisite that you have at least a grounding in the basics of Agile, and at least 6 months experience as a practitioner. If you have any queries about your suitability for the course, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Course Content

In this course you will learn about:

The Agile Team Facilitator Role and Mindset

Agile Team Facilitators facilitate Agile practices, foster collaboration amongst team members, and generally support teams. In this part of the course the behaviours associated with servant leadership and host leadership are presented, as well as the mindset shifts required to be an Agile Team Facilitator.

Development Path for Agile Coaching

Beyond facilitation, additional skills are required by Agile Coaches and Enterprise Agile Coaches, especially when it comes to dealing with dysfunctions in teams, mentoring individuals, and leading change transformation. In this part of the course, you will learn about typical dysfunctional behaviours in teams, how to identify them, and when to seek the help of more advanced Agile Coaches.

The Facilitator Stance

Here we introduce you to the attitudes and behaviours that make a good (even great) facilitator.  You will have the chance to reflect on your own personality characteristics and when certain characteristics are useful (or not).

Designing and Setting Up Meetings

A lot of the work around facilitation is thinking work in advance of a meeting. In this part of the course, you will design tools and techniques for use before, during, and after meetings.

Facilitating Collaboration

Maintaining awareness of our own style of working, and of other styles, allows us to facilitate more meaningful and inclusive intra-team dialogues. Here you will learn about your own working styles, and consider what changes you might want to make to your working style profile.

Creative problem solving and decision-making frameworks are also presented.

Facilitating a Meeting

As this training is particularly experiential, you will have the opportunity to facilitate part of a meeting and to receive feedback from peers, using the facilitation tools and skills learned.

Facilitating the Agile Practices

In this part of the course, you will be presented with approaches to facilitating such practices such as multi-team planning, team planning, and retrospectives. You will experience witnessing and facilitating these activities.

Designing Meetings for Team Interaction

This part of the course offers a series of solutions for preventing and dealing with difficult behaviour/moments by uniting, focusing, and mobilising a team.
